Some men shave their back, though we would recommend waxing to be a much better option. This treatment removes the hair right down to the root, as opposed to simply clipping it down, as is the case with shaving. This means that the results can last for around a month to 6 weeks, depending upon the number of treatments you have had, and how often you have them. This can vary from person to person. A professional waxing treatment also avoids the need to attempt to reach around and shave your own back, which can be difficult and time-consuming, if not dangerous.
What to expect from a back wax
Like all wax treatments, you should expect some discomfort during the waxing process. However, most of our customers report a stinging or tingling sensation as opposed to actual pain. The treatment does become easier over time, if you continue to receive treatments, as the hair becomes easier to remove. Continued waxing sessions also results in a more uniform appearance, as all of the hair will typically fall into synchronisation, growing at the same length.
Wax is heated in order to make it possible to spread across the back, and this is then applied using a spreader. Strips of fabric are applied to the wax until cohesive, and then stripped away very quickly, removing the affected hair. This is repeated, until all of the desired hair has been removed from the back.
Owing to the nature of the treatment, you will be lay on your front on a comfortable surface, with a place in which to rest your head and face. We also find that the discomfort is in fact lessened by not being able to see the procedure taking place.
After your treatment
It is advised to bring a loose-fitting t-shirt or shirt with you, so that you can change into and wear this home, after your treatment. This will allow your skin room to breathe and ensure that it is not irritated by chafing fabric. You should also try to avoid exposing the waxed area to direct sunlight for a couple of days, both before and after the treatment. This includes avoiding any tanning beds, too.
The skin can be more susceptible to the UV rays of the sun immediately after treatment, and if the skin is sun burned before your treatment, this could increase pain or damage to the skin during the waxing.
Finally, you should keep in mind that some break outs can be common after a waxing session, particularly if it is your first. However, you shouldn't worry as this is perfectly normal.
